Screw Insertion Robot. All the robotic controls were developed and commissioned for this Screw Insertion Robot. The cycle is commenced by the operator loading the main assembly and internal components. The robot then checks that the
parts are correctly fitted and automatically inserts all the screws.
Every screw is checked for depth and torque.
Plastic Housing. This assembly has 13 screws and was processed
on the Screw Insertion Robot.
Technology used. The main processing and robotics
movement is achieved using an IAI-Super-Sel Servo Controller
and 3 servo's X,Y and Z. The Z axis has an electro mechanical
brake to prevent it falling under its own weight during power
down or emergency stop. Each axis also has an electrical brake
to give an almost instantaneous stop during an emergency.
The safety circuitry is very comprehensive and utilises two
sets of light curtains. When the screw driver mechanism is safely
parked in its home position, the light curtain safety circuit is
bypassed using two ferrocode switches and a safety relay.
This enables the operator to load and unload the product
with ease, yet still have the safety benefit of the light
curtain when the robot is away from its home position.
