Vision Inspection.
Controls were developed for this system which inspects components prior to VAC forming.
Components must have lots of tiny
pinprick holes in them in order to effectively vac
form a skin over the surface. If there
are too many holes, or the holes are too big
then 'dimples' may appear on the final assembly.
If the holes are too small or missing, then 'sagging
skin' appears, where there's no possbility of a
face lift! This test station inspects two components
at a time and looks for approximately one hundred
holes in each. If any holes are too big, too small,
present when they should be absent, or absent when
they should be present, then this tester will tell
you where they are (or aren't!).
Technology Used.
An Image Industries 'Centurian' system was
used together with four cameras, monitor and
operator programming device. A Mitsubishi FXo
PLC based control system was used to confirm
correct loading of jigs, give pass/fail indication
and also provide an indent mark on all 'good' units.
